The generation where 'Legacy wagon' and 'Outback' became fully the same car in North America — and where Wilderness arrived.
This generation added the off-road-focused Wilderness trim and, per the shared Legacy-platform engine table, offers the FB25 direct-injection four (182 hp from 2024) alongside a newly available FA24F 2.4L turbo (260 hp) on Sport/Touring XT trims — the same turbo engine architecture used in the current Ascent. Commercially, the Outback held the title of best-selling Subaru US nameplate as recently as calendar year 2023 (161,814 units), before the Crosstrek narrowly overtook it in 2024 (181,811 vs. 168,771 units).
Shares the seventh-generation Legacy platform in North America — the generation in which the Legacy wagon body exists only as the Outback in North America. Introduced the Wilderness off-road trim.
